Band Captain, Section Leader
Trombone

Greg Miller

Hey everyone! My name is Greg, and I hail from Milton High School in Milton, GA. This will be my fourth (and final) season in Redcoats, and I’m one semester of classes and a semester of student teaching away from a degree in Music Education. I’m thrilled to get to serve as your Band Captain this year, as well as spend my second year as Trombone Section Leader. Outside of Redcoats, I’m an avid fan of the Braves and Falcons, I like to play ultimate frisbee (you’ll probably see me throwing a disc around before most rehearsals), and enjoy watching a good romantic comedy. You know, guy stuff. I’m also a big promoter of the use of “Staples.” I mean the office supply store, what else could I be talking about? Anyway, if you are new to the Redcoat Band, I can’t wait to get to know you and help you realize what it means to be a part of the Heart of the Bulldog Nation. Please feel free to track me down on Facebook, and don’t hesitate to ask any questions you may have whether they are about Redcoats, college, or life in general. And last, but certainly not least, Go Dawgs!!

Hey y’all! Geana Gault here. I am one of this year’s piccolo section leaders! I was born and raised in Marietta, Georgia and went to Walton High School in Cobb county. This is where my love for marching band and music flourished, and from there decided to become a music education major here at UGA. Obviously I march piccolo, but I much rather play flute since that is my primary instrument of study. For fun, I like to run and cliff jump…yeah I’m somewhat of an adrenalin junkie. :] I love meeting new people and adventuring out to do new things, so please feel free to introduce yourself and join me! Can’t wait to see you all in the fall!

Hey guys! My name is Doug Wirtz and I’m going into my fourth year at UGA as a Biology major. I’m from a town just north of Atlanta known as Roswell where I graduated from Roswell High School in 2010. I can hardly believe it’s already my fourth year as a member of the Redcoat Band, and this year I am honored to serve as one of the trumpet section leaders. Aside from school and band, I’m extremely laid-back and love to have fun with friends. I also love sports, whether it’s playing or watching. On rainy days, I don’t know what I’ll do. I might go outside and jump in puddles or I might stay inside and enjoy a nice board game; it just depends. However, one thing is for sure, and that is that I am super excited about the 2013 season! We ended last season on a strong note and I’m confident that we’ll end this year in Pasadena, California! If you have any questions, feel free to email me (dougwirtz@gmail.com) or find me on Facebook. Rise Up! Always Brave! Go Dawgs!

Maria Torres

Hi everyone! My name is Maria Torres and I’m a senior public affairs journalism major (however, I want to be a baseball writer, guys, so don’t worry about me spouting politics at you) from Stockbridge, GA. I graduated SO LONG AGO as part of the Dutchtown High School class of 2010. I can’t believe I’m this close to graduating from college, but I am extremely glad that I’ll be leaving UGA with the ability to say I was in its brilliant, storied bands. Life as a Redcoat (and as a new sister of Sigma Alpha Iota — love and roses to all!) has been so kind to me. Although I only joined the Redcoats’ ranks my sophomore year, the organization and all its fantastic directors took me in as if I’d been one of their own from the beginning. I’ve learned to cherish everything, from those 7 a.m. Saturday rehearsals to the 12-hour bus rides and the withering heat during day games. It’s virtually impossible for me to remember what life was like before I joined the finest band in the land, and I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way. This organization has been the best of my college career and I hope I can share my pride in it with all of you. I cannot wait to see you all at band camp! Get pumped for this season. It’s going to be a great one! ONCE A DAWG, ALWAYS A DAWG. HOW SWEET IT IS!

Other than music, I am actively involved with the college ministry at Watkinsville First Baptist Church and love God. I enjoy being outside in the sun, hanging out with friends, going on mission trips and doing outreach, and Georgia football! Hey Redcoats! I’m beginning what is most likely my final season in uniform. I am a fourth year biology major at what was always my dream college. I’ve grown up a bulldawg and couldn’t picture it any other way. I’m from the south Georgia town of Statesboro which I would say is small but has been growing for several years due to Georgia Southern University. I graduated in 2010 from Statesboro High School and am (to my knowledge) the only Redcoat from my town. I marched clarinet the first 2 years in high school and was drum major for my last 2 years. I also played golf in high school. I have one little sister named Philadelphia…who is not so little anymore. She just graduated from high school this past school year. I love the ocean and taking trips to the beach. I also love Disney World and everything Disney related. I absolutely love the Redcoat Band and have treasured every year in it. 90% of my college friends come from this organization. In my free time I enjoy reading sci- fi and fantasy books (like A Song of Ice and Fire and The Lord of the Rings), watching procedural crime dramas (like NCIS and Criminal Minds), and playing video games (like Fire Emblem and Pokémon, which is still cool even though I’m 20). I love country music and I love talking about politics and economics. One of my life goals is to be on Jeopardy and meet Alex Trebek.
I’m really excited about next year’s marching band season, and looking forward to a great year! AEA and Go Dawgs!

And I interned in the 13 WMAZ sports department in the summer of 2013, for any Middle Georgians in the crowd! Despite graduating from Mary Persons High School in Forsyth, Georgia four years ago, I’m coming back for an extra year and I hope the Dawgs make it a great one! I am a vocal music education major and I can’t wait to annoy all of you by awkwardly singing opera to myself during band practice. I’m so looking to forward to meeting all of you new members and I’m jealous that your time in Redcoats is just getting started! I’m sure all the seniors would join me in saying that it flies by and will be over before you know it. So, get involved in as many groups as you can, meet every new person you encounter, and most importantly, lose your mind on gamedays cheering for the Dawgs! As one of the trombone Rank Leaders, I cannot wait to work with my rank and this year’s leadership team for the first time. For the last two years that I have been in this band, I have seen and experienced so much talent, ability, and commitment in every endeavor, and I feel privileged to work with them again. If you are, or hope to be, new to this band, I think you will, too.

Jordan R. Coker

I am a native of Powder Springs, GA and attended Hillgrove High School. I am a senior studying economics here at UGA. This is my fourth season in the Redcoat Band and I am very excited for the potential this band possesses. As leaders, we strive to push the band from the bottom up and encourage others to be better. Personally, I want to help every member in my rank have an enjoyable, but productive year in Redcoats. Away from band and school, I enjoy friends, family, sports of any kind, video games and many outdoor activities. I have also enjoyed car racing at a local amateur level for years.
I enjoy travelling, and get to experience a large amount of it. Thanks to the Redcoat Bands, I have been to Atlanta, Auburn, Jacksonville, Memphis, Nashville, Tampa, Orlando and even Spokane, WA. I love visiting family in the Northeast, anywhere from New Hampshire to Rhode Island, and catching a Red Sox game any time in between.
Marching band at the University of Georgia has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my college career. It has taught me how to meet new people that could be very important in your life, deal with your peers on a regular basis, enhance performance skills, and represent the University in the best way possible. I hope to continue this tradition and allow others to enjoy performing and representing the University of Georgia as we should.

Hey Redcoats! I’m Lawrence Williams. I graduated from Tri-Cities High School in East Point, as the Valedictorian in 2012 although I am originally from New Orleans, Louisiana.
I am a sophomore Music Education and Computer Science double major and I will proudly be serving this year as a sousaphone rank leader along with Tony, Jordan and Josh. I think that we are the most interesting, diverse, fun filled section you will ever meet.
Even though this will only be my second year in redcoats I can confidently say that this will be some of the best year of your life! I can’t wait to meet all of you!
Outside of Redcoats, I love sports, especially football! College and NFL! I’m probably the only Saints fan you’ll meet in the band! I love UGA and everything about it! Get ready for the time of your life! GO DAWGS!
