FIRST ARCH COMPOSITION AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED Congratulations to the first winners of the Arch Award for new wind band compositions sponsored by UGA's chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. The winning works will be premiered by the UGA Wind Ensemble on the Friday night concert of the Janfest 60th Anniversary Celebration on January 22, 2010.
Concerto for Piano and Wind Instruments-Robert Gross
Robert Gross received his doctoral degree from the University of Southern California and is currently composer-in-residence of The Relevant Stage Theatre Company. He is the recipient of two ASCAP awards, two grants from the American Music Center and is winner of the Inter-American Music Award. He was a student of Samuel Adler, Richard Danielpour and Arthur Gottschalk.
Surface Tensions-Shawn Hundley
Shawn Hundley received his doctoral degree from Florida State University and is currently an assistant professor of theory and composition at Bethune-Cookman University. He is the recipient of a Charles Ives Scholarship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and was a student of Andre Thomas and Ellen Taaffe Zwilich.
